Interstate Federation of Unicorns- I.F.U.
The island of IFU was discovered in the year 2010 by wandering occultists in search of a new haven of worship for their beloved, mystical unicorns. Four of the occultists, now the leaders of the country named the Zarydiach, consecrated the island in honor of the Great Unicorn, Zimmeemee. As all new countries need citizens, over the next few months, the Zarydiach established a covert mission to kidnap children, ages 10-16, from the neighboring Polynesian Islands. The children were immediately immersed in a religious course instituted by the totalitarian theocracy that the Zarydiach had formed. The State was established through the force theory- the Zarydiach were a ruthless band of tyrants. They enforced their rule through having the children work in the Temples of Zimmeemee and harvesting star fruit. The children were also forced to learn the language in a five day crash course; those who did not learn it were offered as sacrifices to the Zimmeemee. Items of national pride include and are completely limited to unicorns. And star fruit. The national flower is the Stapelia Star Flower. The national tree is the star fruit tree. The national bird is the Blue-footed Booby.
Location: The Interstate Federation of Unicorns is located roughly five miles off the coast of the neighboring Polynesian islands. Its south Pacific location gives it a tropical climate, but the island is relatively small in area; see map for more info.

Climate: The climate of I.F.U. is tropical in nature. The average temperature from 9 A.M. to 9 P.M is 75.5 degrees Fahrenheit - the night hours can vary anywhere from a brisk 40 degrees Fahrenheit to a breezy, crisp 60 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature can undergo a dramatic increase during the spring and summer seasons, and it is not uncommon for conditions to reach a searing 95 degrees. The lush jungles give a musky but cool feeling to the island, and the mountainous terrain can cool the temperature down by approximately 3 degrees per mile climbed.
Terrain: There are three main parts that make up the Federation's island - the coastal beaches, the interior jungles, and the central mountain range. The beaches circumvent the entire island and are some of the most beautiful in the Pacific; emerald waves lick at the pristine white shores speckled with colorful and exotic shells and plants. The jungle area covers the majority of the island, and like the beaches, spans across the entire landmass of I.F.U. The furthermost trees that border the beaches begin with palm trees, but as one ventures farther into the jungle they will find that Eucalyptus and Jacaranda trees dominate the majority of the rainforest. However, the most distinctive feature of I.F.U. and the crown jewel of its people is the central mountain range. Known as the Zoolatry Region, small peaks surround Mount Ziphernaigle - the huge, cone like mountain soaring into the sky; resembling a unicorn horn, Mount Ziphernaigle is the home to the sacred Temples of Zimmeemee and its summit serves as the capitol city (Ziphernaigle) and home of the all-powerful Zarydiach.

Environmental Issues: In it's brief history, I.F.U. has been plagued with a series of natural disasters. Within the first three months of the nation's founding, the island was poundedupon by 5 deadly cyclones that damaged the landscape and took the lives of some of the country's inhabitants. Another impending issue is the outrageous pest control issue currently facing the starfruit harvesters. An infestation of oversized fruit moths has made its way into the harvesting fields - the pests are knownto devour the tropical treat or lay eggs into or onto the fruit. The children of I.F.U., who make up the backbone of the harvesting industry, have aggressively attacked the pests by spraying powerful pesticides over the fields - no report yet on how this has affected the quality of the crop.
PEOPLE
Total Population: The current population of I.F.U. is 48,201 people. This number is expected to rise within the next four to eight years when all the citizens are deemed old enough to marry by the Zarydiach.
Age: The Zarydiach had taken children ages 10-16 from the neighboring Polynesian Islands, so, currently, all inhabitants are ages 11-17.

% of citizens in urban areas: To further prevent the citizens of being their own people, everyone must live in an urban area. The Zarydiach built houses, all with the exact same design, for the Zimmoans. They imported many of the same car so that everyone is equal in terms of cars as well. This helps prevent upper and lower class and any inequality between the Zimmoans.
Nationality: Zimmoan
Religion: The State religion is the pillar around which I.F.U. forms. The occultists who founded the nation implemented a system of worship called Zimmio; Zimmio consists of intense praise of the goldy Unicorns (mainly the mystic and powerful Zimmeemee, for whom this religion was origianlly created) through acts of praise, feasting, and sacrifices. These three activities are known as the 3 Activities of Unicornial Worship. Praise of the magical creatures involves choral chanting in a guttural dialect while dancing in a form that can only be described as a fusion of hip-hop, ballet, and tap. Praise sessions can last for hours on end and by the end those who have participated are supposed to feel a tickling sensation in the cranium that they believe will help them grow their own horns. Feasting requires vast amounts of star fruit and time. This particular ritual requires that the small, often times emaciated, children of the island to gorge themselves with the tropical fruit until they pass out or begin to vomit uncontrollably. Feasting is thought to create a bond with the Unicorns and enlighten its participants with the knowledge of how to greater serve the mystical creatures. It is not uncommon for the children to hallucinate, or turn a pale shade of yellow during this activity. The final, and most important, activity is sacrifice. An enormous bonfire is constructed by the servants that work in the Temples of Zimmeemee, and at approximately midnight the events are underway. Common sacrifices include items that are associated with evil, including: Polo shirts, overripe starfruit, and dead sea animals that have washed ashore. These three activities allow the inhabitants of I.F.U. to connect with the beloved Unicorns on a spiritual level, and that is truly the reason for the forming of the nation.
Language: The islanders of I.F.U. are only permitted to speak one language: Zibungalian. The language was established by the Zarydiach, however, it was taught to them in a vision. They were walking along the coastal shores of I.F.U., when, all of the sudden, they were all a part of the same hallucination. The Powerful Zimmeemee appeared before them and spoke the language to them. It was then that it was decided that Zibungalian was the only language to be spoken on the island. When the first citizens/kidnapped children were brought to the island, they were taught the language in an impressive, but rigorous, five day course. Those unable to master the language and speak it fluently were offered as sacrifices. Presently, the population is tested on the language at least once a month to ensure maximum retention, as well as to provide sacrifices to Zimmeemee in the event of a mispronunciation. Zibungalian words always start with the letter "Z", which is revered as the most holy of all letters. (All citizens must hang a photo of the letter in their homes/shelters. Violators are punished severely.) The most common phrase spoken is this: "Zaloush zoo zopple zeanign Zimmeemee". This translates to "All hail the Mighty Zimmeemee".

Traditional Dress/ Clothing: The nation of I.F.U. is very strict in its manor of dress. All Zimmoans are required to wear clothes made of zibeline, when they must wear clothes. Zibeline is a thick, soft fabric made of wool and other animal hair, such as the mohair. As the island is inhabited by sheep and angora goats, zibeline is easy to come by. For day to day harvesting, men and women wear a full body suit of zibeline, to ensure protection from the sun and the elements. The zibeline body suits also give the citizens a very pale skin tone (due to lack of sun exposure,) which is extremely desirable. All persons are prohibited from wearing name brands, such as Polo. To religious events and on national holidays, the Zimmoans adorn themselves in hooded cloaks made of starfruit leaves. In the past, some groups of Zimmoans have attempted to start nudist clans in the capital city of Ziphernaigle. This was immediately discouraged and all participants were sacrificed as this is prohibited within the city walls. Because of these rebellious acts, all Zimmoans are subject to body suit inspection whenever it so pleases the Zarydiach. The body suits and cloaks are provided for the citizens by the Zarydiach, however, new sizes are only available every five years. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance that they keep their body suits and cloaks clean and tear-free at all times.
Food: For breakfast, they have a combination of star fruit, star shaped pancakes or waffles, and sausage in the shape of a horn; the common breakfast meal is referred to as the Zakefast. For lunch, they have star shaped sandwiches; they are given two choices: turkey or peanut butter and jelly, only. Ramen noodles are considered a rare delight, for this reason the Zarydiach have limited this to only one day for lunch out of a week for each citizen. Along with the main course, they often eat star fruit on a stick. For dinner everyone will have a bowl of rice with star fruit bits in it, as well as turnip greens. Between meals it is common for a citizen to munch on some star fruit. Star fruit is extremely healthy for your body. It also helps connect you to the Mighty Zimmeemee. Star fruit are eaten religiously by all citizens.
Major National Holidays: Holidays are taken extremely seriously by the Zarydiach and are the source of major national pride for the country's children. Two main holidays are celebrated on the island, and they are semi-annual - one in June and one in December. The summer holiday is called Zoop. Zoop is celebrated by all of the inhabitants of I.F.U. who gather in the mountain range to participate in competitions. Children partake in races up and down the mountain, eating competitions, and no-blinking contests. After the events take place, the winners join the Zarydiach on a raised plateau where they are presented with precious gifts such as Unicorn horns, shells from the beaches, or unidentifiable lumps of brown stone that the harvesters collect in their free time. The ceremony is completed when all of the children each devour a slice of star fruit. The December holiday is called Zip. This holiday is only observed by the harvesting clans of the nation; this single event is a time of rest for the children that collect starfruits for 19 hours out of the day 347 days of the year. The celebrants, appropriately deemed "Zippers" by the Zarydiach, sleep for three and a half days, only waking to snack on star fruit or stare at the walls. These holidays are wondrous events of glory for the inhabitants of the island, and they are also the only times when the children reveive a break from work...
Cultural Norms & Taboos:
DUE MARCH 17TH- 20 POINTS
The economy of the International Federation of Unicorns is largely based upon command principles. The government, this meaning the Zarydiach, controls all major industries such as manufacturing and agriculture; labor is provided by high tech robots (manufacturing; see “industries”) as well as the Zimmoan children (agriculture). The government manages all finances and is responsible for the fiscal wellbeing of the Federation; importation and exportation are also solely in the control of the Zarydiach. Having communist policies employed by the government, there are obvious roadblocks that hamper the growth and development of I.F.U.’s economic system. Currently facing the Federation is an inability to engage in large-scale production of goods and services (due to a restricted amount of labor and capital), which greatly affects the national Gross Domestic Product. Also, the government has begun to see problems with the importation and exportation processes, in which only minute numbers of goods and services are traded. The stagnancy produced by the communist regulations only allows minimal positive fluctuations in the economy – workers are downtrodden by bad working conditions and have no incentive to increase quality or quantity of products. In an effort to urge workers on, the Zarydiach has instituted a system that penalizes workers that are not viewed as “productive”; this regimen has three increasingly brutal stages to punish the inefficient labor: first the children have their figure publicly ridiculed, then they are force-fed star fruit, then they must wear Polo products. Despite renewed efforts to kick start the economy, the Federation faces a difficult future.
GDP-The Average Gross Domestic Product for the International Federation of Unicorns is roughly $1,500,000 USD. The manufacturing industry brings in a whopping sixty-six percent of the GDP ($1,000,000), and agriculture brings in approximately thirty-four percent ($500,000).
GDP per Capita- Per capita, GDP stays at about $15,000 USD. There are approximately 75 Zimmoan children that work the fields, and 25 Android robots that manufacture products in manufacturing facilities.
GDP Growth Rate- The GDP growth rate currently stands at -300 percent. In the first year of national independence, I.F.U. experienced a boom in their economy – neighboring Pacific islands had a high demand for star fruit, Taiwan was entering a firework craze, and Filipino children developed an infatuation with latex balloons. Throughout that year, the Zarydiach had also set up an ultra-successful black market for pirated DVD’s and discontinued food-making devices deemed “unsafe” by the United States government. Sadly, their storage unit for the products was engulfed in an inferno when an illegalized quesadilla maker spontaneously combusted, setting off a chain reaction that ultimately burned down the storage unit in a storm of noxious fumes and multicolored flames. Since then, the Federation has seen some unfortunate economic times – without the black market that raked in millions of dollars, the national economy suffered. The following year, the exportation of goods was down by two-hundred and twenty five percent, and the annual numbers for star fruit harvesting had also taken demoralizing hits. While the economy is still in a trough, experts say that the country is positioned for an upswing – predictions by Australian wedding planners, Mexican food analysts, and Chinese witch doctors all point towards theidea that within the next six months the top three exports (star fruit, latex balloons, and fireworks) will be trending. Until then, it’s more than likely that the economy will stay in the dumps.

Labor force by occupation- 90% agricultural; 0% industrial; 10% service. There is no percent of Zimmoans working in the industry field as the Zarydiach wish to limit thosejobs strictly to their technologically advanced robots. Normally, the labor force only counts workers above the age of 14, however, the Zarydiach firmly disagree with thatline of thinking since the I.F.U. inhabitants are all 11-17 yr. olds. I.F.U.'s labor force is comprised of all workers in the nation, regardless of age.
Unemployment Rate- The unemployment rate currently stands at .8% because all citizens are required to work unless they prove to the Zarydiach that they are physically or mentally unable.
% population below the poverty line- As Zimmoans live under a largly communistic rule, all inhabitants have a communal wealth- none. Only the Zarydiach are considered wealthy, as they hold the entire nation's wealth.
Income distribution- All currency that would be distributed as currency in other nations goes directly to the Zarydiach's personal fund and is only returned to the masses in the form of food and clothing provided by the government.

Inflation rate- Due to the fact that the Zarydiach own all the money of the country, I.F.U. has had no inflation. The Zarydiach do not print any more money or take any out of the cycle. They created their first bills when they first inhabited the island one year ago. They pulled together all of their money, they all had U.S. bills, and created new money, equivalent to the total U.S. value, and then burned the American bills. They created 2 bills: the 50 Zeecha which has the portrait of all the Zarydiach together and the 100 Zeecha with the face of the highest Unicorn, Zimmeemee. Currency-The currency is known as Zeecha.
Exchange rate to US dollar- The exchange rate of the Zeecha to the US dollar is 1 Zeecha = 5 U.S. dollars.
Agricultural products- The Zarydiach decided to make the Zimmoans cultivate many fruits. The main fruit grown is the star fruit; it is planted on over half of the farms in I.F.U. The rest of the arable land is taken by the growing of the breadfruit and the coconut palm tree. A normal breadfruit tree will produce fruit three times a year. However, the Zarydiach desired more from the tree and hired top scientists to chemically alter its seed to create a "super"breadfruit tree. This new creation can produce fruit year round and grows to an adult tree in 2 years. The coconut palm is highly enjoyed by all Zimmoans. It is harvested for the developing nuts and young sprouts; the coconut milk is very popular and consumed with most Zakefasts. It is loved for its original and sweet taste.

Industries- The entire industrial realm of the country of I.F.U. exists in underground caves and caverns to ensure that the natives have no part in it. If the Zimmoans were to find about factory positions, they may protest and fight for better working conditions, as opposed to their current jobs in the smoldering heat clothed in the zibeline body suits. Because some factories require some physical and human capital, in order to function, the Zarydiach hired the world's top scientists to create robots with near human intelligence and dexterity to fill such positions. All waste and smoke is thoroughly filtered before it is released to the above world through camouflage smoke stacks in the moor remote areas of the island. The main industry of I.F.U. is it's production of nuclear energy, which provides electricity for the entire island. This is the perfect industry for the island as it has a vast natural supply of uranium, which makes the nuclear energy. Although the capital, Ziphernaigle, is the only city permitted to use electricity, the nuclear plants see much use as the capital is an extremely developed city, similar to New York City. No work is being done in the field of nuclear bombs as there is no room for testing on the small island. On the north east corner of the island there is a rubber tree forest. These logs are transported to a nearby underground factory were they are used to make latex balloons. The latex is made from the sap and bark of the tree. Unfortunately, the latex causes skin irritation and can not be used for the production of medical gloves. I.F.U.'s smallest industry is currently the firework industry. The island has a large amount of lithium; compounds of lithium give fireworks their red color. Fireworks are only used on the island on national holidays. Violators are severely punished.
Major Exports- The nation of I.F.U. exports a limited supply of goods to dull any curiosity of the Zimmoans. Also, the Zarydiach are the only people permitted to take part in exporting and importing, so a smaller number of transactions makes this more easily managed. Primarily, the only exports are latex balloons to the United States, fireworks to China, and coconuts to Germany. The use of balloons and fireworks is not allowed within the nation's border.
Major Imports- Similar to he esparto customs, only the Zarydiach handle the importing affairs. More items are imported than exported, but they are still few compared to most countries. It is of the utmost importance to the Zarydiach that the Zimmoans not become "spoiled" with frivolous items. Only essential needs are met. Items imported include the following: rice from China, wheat from India, Ramen noodles from the United States, metals (iron, steel, aluminum) from Brazil, as well as fine wine from Australia.
Main Trading Partners- The Interstate Federation of Unicorn's main trade partners are the United States and China. I.F.U. makes business transaction with a number of other nations, but none as much as the U.S. and China. Government Type- The Interstate Federation of Unicorns is recognized as a totalitarian theocracy in which the Zarydiach rule as the absolute political and religious power. I.F.U. is a Unitary Government. All power rests with the Zarydiach. The location of the government lies in the beautiful capital city of Ziphernaigle.
Parliamentary or Presidential- I.F.U. is neither a Parliamentary government nor a Presidential government in that it has no real legislative and judicial branches or a president or prime minister. Rather, all of these jobs are done by the Zarydiach who graciously donate their time to the governing of the Zimmoans.
Subdivisions of Power- The only divisions of power that exist within I.F.U.'s borders are the people who the Zarydiach name responsible for managing the star fruit orchards. The people selected are the eldest of all the citizens, the seventeen year-olds. They are hand-selected by the Zarydiach themselves to ensure that the best workers are chosen. The only tasks of these chosen ones are to make sure that every harvester remains diligent with their work throughout their entire shift and to report those workers who are lazy to the Zarydiach who will either castrate them or burn them (depending on their gender.)
Current Government- The current government of I.F.U. was established in the year 2010 by the Zarydiach in the same year the island was discovered. No other forms of government have been experimented with because the Zarydiach predicted that the totalitarian theocracy would be the best choice for the nation. The central government's location has not and never will be changed from its place in Ziphernaigle.
Legal System: The Zarydiach have full discretion on the laws and enforcing them. They do not allow any citizens to have a say in the laws and they are not subject to change. Enforcement of the laws is not taken lightly, the Zarydiach are not messing around with the punishments for disobeying the laws. Laws will be enforced to the highest extent.
Branches of Government: The Zarydiach, being the complete rulers of I.F.U., control all the branches. They together create the laws, enforce the laws, and decide whether they are constitutionally correct and should be allowed. Some may believe this would be impossible, saying there is no way four people could agree on everything. However the Zarydiach unnaturally agree on everything and it is quite simple for them to run the country together. So far they have not disagreed on any law; if there were to be a disagreement between them, they would discuss the law until they came to a settlement or it might result in a vote from the Zarydiach amongst them. A disagreement is not predicted to come in the future because their decisions are always based on the Zimmeemee. Everything must protect, respect, and worship the Zimmeemee or it is simply not aloud.
How the election process occurs: There is no election process in the I.F.U. The Zarydiach rule all equally and that will never change, no citizen will ever have the right to vote.
How many? jobs/funtions of each: The Zarydiach holds all the jobs of the government. They create, enforce and define the laws on I.F.U equally. There are no specific jobs given to each person, it is distributed among them and are always open for discussion and a change by any member of the Zarydiach.
How Chosen- The Zarydiach serves to function as any and all parts of the government. No specific jobs are established other than the sole Right to Rule All and Only the Zarydiach chooses which jobs to do as well as which of them will do it.
Cabinet- Since the founding of our nation and their abduction, the population has reveled in a supreme lack of imagination. Their total lack of creativity inhibits their “In-The-Box-Thinking” and the few attempts at adding members to the Zarydiach’s council have not gone well. The members exhibited their inability to advise and suggest new proposals and ideas while keeping the Zarydiach ideology intact. Ridiculous privileges and rights such as freedom press, petition speech and religion of all things were suggested in order to “keep the masses happy”. As you can well understand the Zarydiach had no choice but to deem them wrought with horrible dementia thus having to castrate and confine them to the mental asylum (as to ensure this clearly genetic disease would not corrupt the future Zimmoans). Since this tragic example of bad DNA, the people have been hesitant to seize the opportunity to change and better their country despite the Zarydiach’s sincere disappointment.
Legislative and Dominant Political Party- The Zarydiach currently preside as the only real political party aside from a few dementia stricken groups (obliviously awaiting castration). The legislature has no separate houses but rather one chamber made up by all the Zarydiach who meet to propose, debate and enforce bills.
Political Parties: Due to the totalitarian nature of the International Federation of Unicorns - its oligarchic governmental and command-style economic structures – there is a lack in political activism by its citizens; the Zarydiach serves as its own political party, and faces only slight political opposition (although open resistance is futile and punishable on pain of death.) It has been suspected that an underground political movement, known as the Coffee Party, has formed over the matter of the past six months; the Coffee Party purportedly harbors anti-government fanatics that want to be paid for work, not have to worship Zimmeemmee, and be able to Skype with estranged family members for ten minutes every month. Obviously, these ideals are preposterous and will not be permitted under the iron fisted rule of the Zarydiach. This past month Coffee Partyers picketed one of the sacred Temples of Zimmeemee, sporting outrageous attire (Polo’s, needless to say), and holding up signs saying things like ‘IMPEACH THE ZARYDIACH!’, ‘UNICORNS ARE DUMB’, ‘WE ARE SICK AND TIRED OF THE ZIBELINE FUR SUITS’, and ‘OCCULTISTS LIED, KIDS DIED!’. The overzealous protestors were promptly shot in the face by rifles. Even more mysterious, the protestors’ families vanished into thin air within the week. Despite these demoralizing set-backs, these spunky little Coffee Partyers still seem determined to make a dent in the seemingly lethal game of Federation politics.
American Tea Partyers are much like Zimmoan Coffee Partyers. Except much less savage.
Court Structure: The Federation’s island is relatively small in size, and is home to only a couple hundred disease-ridden, pre-pubescent teenagers, therefore only one court presides in the land – The Supreme Theological Court of Occultism. Seeing as there are only minors and android robots to inhabit the island, the beautiful and talented Zarydiach serve as both the justices and prosecutors in this notoriously unforgiving (not to mention temperamental) court. Having a single court to uphold the values of I.F.U., much paperwork (no documentation in history of court), manpower (Zarydiach take turns playing prosecutor), and confusion (no other sources have a say and appeals are outlawed) is saved. No state, provincial, or municipal courts are necessary to meet the legal needs of the citizenry. Offenders are brought in front of the panel and tried for the alleged crime; the defendants are provided with no legal assistance but are allowed a thirty second testimony to convince the panel of their innocence. The Zarydiach make their ruling by reviewing the government contract formed to create the nation, the Zulu. The Zulu outlines the core values of the Federation and sets guidelines for executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the government. Once a unanimous verdict is reached, the Zarydiach deliver the news to the offender; the prosecutor(s), whom have a 100% conviction rate, take the convict’s out back and set off fireworks in the general direction of the criminal at point blank range or deliver alternative punishment as layed out by Zulu Contract.
Court Power Division: The Supreme Theological Court of Occultism is the sole court of the nation, therefore no division of power is needed.
Legislative Chambers: The exclusive law-making body is the Zarydiach, and accordingly there is only one chamber to create, propose, vote on, and pass bills. This chamber is called the Zangrod. The Zangrod is located adjacent to one of the Temples of Zimmeemmee on Mount Ziphernaegle and is renowned for its ostentatious architecture and design. The Zarydiach convene here approximately once every three months to introduce pet bills to pass and dine on star fruit pie. Moreover, sessions only last a few hours and produce five to seven bills dealing usually with agricultural production, technological manufacturing, importation and exportation, renovation of temples, revamping of Unicornial Worship curriculum, and capital punishment. The law-making process is usually concise, to the point, and brief.
DUE APRIL 21ST - 100 POINTS Tax Revenue: In the nation of I.F.U., there is technically no revenue. This is due to the fact that the Zarydiach keep all of the currency in the country. On the other hand, one could say that all of the money in I.F.U. is the tax revenue; it just depends on how you look at things. The amount of money collected is 1,234,567 USD per year, 102,880 USD per month. Since all of the money collected by the Zarydiach would, in other countries, be from the Zimmoan’s salaries, it is accepted that the money collected by the Zarydiach is an income tax.

Interstate Federation of Unicorns- I.F.U.
The island of IFU was discovered in the year 2010 by wandering occultists in search of a new haven of worship for their beloved, mystical unicorns. Four of the occultists, now the leaders of the country named the Zarydiach, consecrated the island in honor of the Great Unicorn, Zimmeemee. As all new countries need citizens, over the next few months, the Zarydiach established a covert mission to kidnap children, ages 10-16, from the neighboring Polynesian Islands. The children were immediately immersed in a religious course instituted by the totalitarian theocracy that the Zarydiach had formed. The State was established through the force theory- the Zarydiach were a ruthless band of tyrants. They enforced their rule through having the children work in the Temples of Zimmeemee and harvesting star fruit. The children were also forced to learn the language in a five day crash course; those who did not learn it were offered as sacrifices to the Zimmeemee. Items of national pride include and are completely limited to unicorns. And star fruit. The national flower is the Stapelia Star Flower. The national tree is the star fruit tree. The national bird is the Blue-footed Booby.

Location: The Interstate Federation of Unicorns is located roughly five miles off the coast of the neighboring Polynesian islands. Its south Pacific location gives it a tropical climate, but the island is relatively small in area; see map for more info.
Climate: The climate of I.F.U. is tropical in nature. The average temperature from 9 A.M. to 9 P.M is 75.5 degrees Fahrenheit - the night hours can vary anywhere from a brisk 40 degrees Fahrenheit to a breezy, crisp 60 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature can undergo a dramatic increase during the spring and summer seasons, and it is not uncommon for conditions to reach a searing 95 degrees. The lush jungles give a musky but cool feeling to the island, and the mountainous terrain can cool the temperature down by approximately 3 degrees per mile climbed.
Terrain: There are three main parts that make up the Federation's island - the coastal beaches, the interior jungles, and the central mountain range. The beaches circumvent the entire island and are some of the most beautiful in the Pacific; emerald waves lick at the pristine white shores speckled with colorful and exotic shells and plants. The jungle area covers the majority of the island, and like the beaches, spans across the entire landmass of I.F.U. The furthermost trees that border the beaches begin with palm trees, but as one ventures farther into the jungle they will find that Eucalyptus and Jacaranda trees dominate the majority of the rainforest. However, the most distinctive feature of I.F.U. and the crown jewel of its people is the central mountain range. Known as the Zoolatry Region, small peaks surround Mount Ziphernaigle - the huge, cone like mountain soaring into the sky; resembling a unicorn horn, Mount Ziphernaigle is the home to the sacred Temples of Zimmeemee and its summit serves as the capitol city (Ziphernaigle) and home of the all-powerful Zarydiach.

Environmental Issues: In it's brief history, I.F.U. has been plagued with a series of natural disasters. Within the first three months of the nation's founding, the island was poundedupon by 5 deadly cyclones that damaged the landscape and took the lives of some of the country's inhabitants. Another impending issue is the outrageous pest control issue currently facing the starfruit harvesters. An infestation of oversized fruit moths has made its way into the harvesting fields - the pests are knownto devour the tropical treat or lay eggs into or onto the fruit. The children of I.F.U., who make up the backbone of the harvesting industry, have aggressively attacked the pests by spraying powerful pesticides over the fields - no report yet on how this has affected the quality of the crop.
PEOPLE
Total Population: The current population of I.F.U. is 48,201 people. This number is expected to rise within the next four to eight years when all the citizens are deemed old enough to marry by the Zarydiach.
Age: The Zarydiach had taken children ages 10-16 from the neighboring Polynesian Islands, so, currently, all inhabitants are ages 11-17.
% of citizens in urban areas: To further prevent the citizens of being their own people, everyone must live in an urban area. The Zarydiach built houses, all with the exact same design, for the Zimmoans. They imported many of the same car so that everyone is equal in terms of cars as well. This helps prevent upper and lower class and any inequality between the Zimmoans.
Nationality: Zimmoan
Religion: The State religion is the pillar around which I.F.U. forms. The occultists who founded the nation implemented a system of worship called Zimmio; Zimmio consists of intense praise of the goldy Unicorns (mainly the mystic and powerful Zimmeemee, for whom this religion was origianlly created) through acts of praise, feasting, and sacrifices. These three activities are known as the 3 Activities of Unicornial Worship. Praise of the magical creatures involves choral chanting in a guttural dialect while dancing in a form that can only be described as a fusion of hip-hop, ballet, and tap. Praise sessions can last for hours on end and by the end those who have participated are supposed to feel a tickling sensation in the cranium that they believe will help them grow their own horns. Feasting requires vast amounts of star fruit and time. This particular ritual requires that the small, often times emaciated, children of the island to gorge themselves with the tropical fruit until they pass out or begin to vomit uncontrollably. Feasting is thought to create a bond with the Unicorns and enlighten its participants with the knowledge of how to greater serve the mystical creatures. It is not uncommon for the children to hallucinate, or turn a pale shade of yellow during this activity. The final, and most important, activity is sacrifice. An enormous bonfire is constructed by the servants that work in the Temples of Zimmeemee, and at approximately midnight the events are underway. Common sacrifices include items that are associated with evil, including: Polo shirts, overripe starfruit, and dead sea animals that have washed ashore. These three activities allow the inhabitants of I.F.U. to connect with the beloved Unicorns on a spiritual level, and that is truly the reason for the forming of the nation.
Language: The islanders of I.F.U. are only permitted to speak one language: Zibungalian. The language was established by the Zarydiach, however, it was taught to them in a vision. They were walking along the coastal shores of I.F.U., when, all of the sudden, they were all a part of the same hallucination. The Powerful Zimmeemee appeared before them and spoke the language to them. It was then that it was decided that Zibungalian was the only language to be spoken on the island. When the first citizens/kidnapped children were brought to the island, they were taught the language in an impressive, but rigorous, five day course. Those unable to master the language and speak it fluently were offered as sacrifices. Presently, the population is tested on the language at least once a month to ensure maximum retention, as well as to provide sacrifices to Zimmeemee in the event of a mispronunciation. Zibungalian words always start with the letter "Z", which is revered as the most holy of all letters. (All citizens must hang a photo of the letter in their homes/shelters. Violators are punished severely.) The most common phrase spoken is this: "Zaloush zoo zopple zeanign Zimmeemee". This translates to "All hail the Mighty Zimmeemee".
Food: For breakfast, they have a combination of star fruit, star shaped pancakes or waffles, and sausage in the shape of a horn; the common breakfast meal is referred to as the Zakefast. For lunch, they have star shaped sandwiches; they are given two choices: turkey or peanut butter and jelly, only. Ramen noodles are considered a rare delight, for this reason the Zarydiach have limited this to only one day for lunch out of a week for each citizen. Along with the main course, they often eat star fruit on a stick. For dinner everyone will have a bowl of rice with star fruit bits in it, as well as turnip greens. Between meals it is common for a citizen to munch on some star fruit. Star fruit is extremely healthy for your body. It also helps connect you to the Mighty Zimmeemee. Star fruit are eaten religiously by all citizens.
Major National Holidays: Holidays are taken extremely seriously by the Zarydiach and are the source of major national pride for the country's children. Two main holidays are celebrated on the island, and they are semi-annual - one in June and one in December. The summer holiday is called Zoop. Zoop is celebrated by all of the inhabitants of I.F.U. who gather in the mountain range to participate in competitions. Children partake in races up and down the mountain, eating competitions, and no-blinking contests. After the events take place, the winners join the Zarydiach on a raised plateau where they are presented with precious gifts such as Unicorn horns, shells from the beaches, or unidentifiable lumps of brown stone that the harvesters collect in their free time. The ceremony is completed when all of the children each devour a slice of star fruit. The December holiday is called Zip. This holiday is only observed by the harvesting clans of the nation; this single event is a time of rest for the children that collect starfruits for 19 hours out of the day 347 days of the year. The celebrants, appropriately deemed "Zippers" by the Zarydiach, sleep for three and a half days, only waking to snack on star fruit or stare at the walls. These holidays are wondrous events of glory for the inhabitants of the island, and they are also the only times when the children reveive a break from work...
Cultural Norms & Taboos:
DUE MARCH 17TH- 20 POINTS
The economy of the International Federation of Unicorns is largely based upon command principles. The government, this meaning the Zarydiach, controls all major industries such as manufacturing and agriculture; labor is provided by high tech robots (manufacturing; see “industries”) as well as the Zimmoan children (agriculture). The government manages all finances and is responsible for the fiscal wellbeing of the Federation; importation and exportation are also solely in the control of the Zarydiach. Having communist policies employed by the government, there are obvious roadblocks that hamper the growth and development of I.F.U.’s economic system. Currently facing the Federation is an inability to engage in large-scale production of goods and services (due to a restricted amount of labor and capital), which greatly affects the national Gross Domestic Product. Also, the government has begun to see problems with the importation and exportation processes, in which only minute numbers of goods and services are traded. The stagnancy produced by the communist regulations only allows minimal positive fluctuations in the economy – workers are downtrodden by bad working conditions and have no incentive to increase quality or quantity of products. In an effort to urge workers on, the Zarydiach has instituted a system that penalizes workers that are not viewed as “productive”; this regimen has three increasingly brutal stages to punish the inefficient labor: first the children have their figure publicly ridiculed, then they are force-fed star fruit, then they must wear Polo products. Despite renewed efforts to kick start the economy, the Federation faces a difficult future.GDP-The Average Gross Domestic Product for the International Federation of Unicorns is roughly $1,500,000 USD. The manufacturing industry brings in a whopping sixty-six percent of the GDP ($1,000,000), and agriculture brings in approximately thirty-four percent ($500,000).
GDP per Capita- Per capita, GDP stays at about $15,000 USD. There are approximately 75 Zimmoan children that work the fields, and 25 Android robots that manufacture products in manufacturing facilities.
GDP Growth Rate- The GDP growth rate currently stands at -300 percent. In the first year of national independence, I.F.U. experienced a boom in their economy – neighboring Pacific islands had a high demand for star fruit, Taiwan was entering a firework craze, and Filipino children developed an infatuation with latex balloons. Throughout that year, the Zarydiach had also set up an ultra-successful black market for pirated DVD’s and discontinued food-making devices deemed “unsafe” by the United States government. Sadly, their storage unit for the products was engulfed in an inferno when an illegalized quesadilla maker spontaneously combusted, setting off a chain reaction that ultimately burned down the storage unit in a storm of noxious fumes and multicolored flames. Since then, the Federation has seen some unfortunate economic times – without the black market that raked in millions of dollars, the national economy suffered. The following year, the exportation of goods was down by two-hundred and twenty five percent, and the annual numbers for star fruit harvesting had also taken demoralizing hits. While the economy is still in a trough, experts say that the country is positioned for an upswing – predictions by Australian wedding planners, Mexican food analysts, and Chinese witch doctors all point towards theidea that within the next six months the top three exports (star fruit, latex balloons, and fireworks) will be trending. Until then, it’s more than likely that the economy will stay in the dumps.
Labor force by occupation- 90% agricultural; 0% industrial; 10% service. There is no percent of Zimmoans working in the industry field as the Zarydiach wish to limit thosejobs strictly to their technologically advanced robots. Normally, the labor force only counts workers above the age of 14, however, the Zarydiach firmly disagree with thatline of thinking since the I.F.U. inhabitants are all 11-17 yr. olds. I.F.U.'s labor force is comprised of all workers in the nation, regardless of age.
Unemployment Rate- The unemployment rate currently stands at .8% because all citizens are required to work unless they prove to the Zarydiach that they are physically or mentally unable.
% population below the poverty line- As Zimmoans live under a largly communistic rule, all inhabitants have a communal wealth- none. Only the Zarydiach are considered wealthy, as they hold the entire nation's wealth.
Income distribution- All currency that would be distributed as currency in other nations goes directly to the Zarydiach's personal fund and is only returned to the masses in the form of food and clothing provided by the government.
Inflation rate- Due to the fact that the Zarydiach own all the money of the country, I.F.U. has had no inflation. The Zarydiach do not print any more money or take any out of the cycle. They created their first bills when they first inhabited the island one year ago. They pulled together all of their money, they all had U.S. bills, and created new money, equivalent to the total U.S. value, and then burned the American bills. They created 2 bills: the 50 Zeecha which has the portrait of all the Zarydiach together and the 100 Zeecha with the face of the highest Unicorn, Zimmeemee.
Currency-The currency is known as Zeecha.
Exchange rate to US dollar- The exchange rate of the Zeecha to the US dollar is 1 Zeecha = 5 U.S. dollars.
Agricultural products- The Zarydiach decided to make the Zimmoans cultivate many fruits. The main fruit grown is the star fruit; it is planted on over half of the farms in I.F.U. The rest of the arable land is taken by the growing of the breadfruit and the coconut palm tree. A normal breadfruit tree will produce fruit three times a year. However, the Zarydiach desired more from the tree and hired top scientists to chemically alter its seed to create a "super"breadfruit tree. This new creation can produce fruit year round and grows to an adult tree in 2 years. The coconut palm is highly enjoyed by all Zimmoans. It is harvested for the developing nuts and young sprouts; the coconut milk is very popular and consumed with most Zakefasts. It is loved for its original and sweet taste.
Industries- The entire industrial realm of the country of I.F.U. exists in underground caves and caverns to ensure that the natives have no part in it. If the Zimmoans were to find about factory positions, they may protest and fight for better working conditions, as opposed to their current jobs in the smoldering heat clothed in the zibeline body suits. Because some factories require some physical and human capital, in order to function, the Zarydiach hired the world's top scientists to create robots with near human intelligence and dexterity to fill such positions. All waste and smoke is thoroughly filtered before it is released to the above world through camouflage smoke stacks in the moor remote areas of the island.
The main industry of I.F.U. is it's production of nuclear energy, which provides electricity for the entire island. This is the perfect industry for the island as it has a vast natural supply of uranium, which makes the nuclear energy. Although the capital, Ziphernaigle, is the only city permitted to use electricity, the nuclear plants see much use as the capital is an extremely developed city, similar to New York City. No work is being done in the field of nuclear bombs as there is no room for testing on the small island. On the north east corner of the island there is a rubber tree forest. These logs are transported to a nearby underground factory were they are used to make latex balloons. The latex is made from the sap and bark of the tree. Unfortunately, the latex causes skin irritation and can not be used for the production of medical gloves. I.F.U.'s smallest industry is currently the firework industry. The island has a large amount of lithium; compounds of lithium give fireworks their red color. Fireworks are only used on the island on national holidays. Violators are severely punished.
Major Exports- The nation of I.F.U. exports a limited supply of goods to dull any curiosity of the Zimmoans. Also, the Zarydiach are the only people permitted to take part in exporting and importing, so a smaller number of transactions makes this more easily managed. Primarily, the only exports are latex balloons to the United States, fireworks to China, and coconuts to Germany. The use of balloons and fireworks is not allowed within the nation's border.
Major Imports- Similar to he esparto customs, only the Zarydiach handle the importing affairs. More items are imported than exported, but they are still few compared to most countries. It is of the utmost importance to the Zarydiach that the Zimmoans not become "spoiled" with frivolous items. Only essential needs are met. Items imported include the following: rice from China, wheat from India, Ramen noodles from the United States, metals (iron, steel, aluminum) from Brazil, as well as fine wine from Australia.
Main Trading Partners- The Interstate Federation of Unicorn's main trade partners are the United States and China. I.F.U. makes business transaction with a number of other nations, but none as much as the U.S. and China.
Government Type- The Interstate Federation of Unicorns is recognized as a totalitarian theocracy in which the Zarydiach rule as the absolute political and religious power. I.F.U. is a Unitary Government. All power rests with the Zarydiach. The location of the government lies in the beautiful capital city of Ziphernaigle.
Parliamentary or Presidential- I.F.U. is neither a Parliamentary government nor a Presidential government in that it has no real legislative and judicial branches or a president or prime minister. Rather, all of these jobs are done by the Zarydiach who graciously donate their time to the governing of the Zimmoans.
Subdivisions of Power- The only divisions of power that exist within I.F.U.'s borders are the people who the Zarydiach name responsible for managing the star fruit orchards. The people selected are the eldest of all the citizens, the seventeen year-olds. They are hand-selected by the Zarydiach themselves to ensure that the best workers are chosen. The only tasks of these chosen ones are to make sure that every harvester remains diligent with their work throughout their entire shift and to report those workers who are lazy to the Zarydiach who will either castrate them or burn them (depending on their gender.)
Current Government- The current government of I.F.U. was established in the year 2010 by the Zarydiach in the same year the island was discovered. No other forms of government have been experimented with because the Zarydiach predicted that the totalitarian theocracy would be the best choice for the nation. The central government's location has not and never will be changed from its place in Ziphernaigle.
Legal System: The Zarydiach have full discretion on the laws and enforcing them. They do not allow any citizens to have a say in the laws and they are not subject to change. Enforcement of the laws is not taken lightly, the Zarydiach are not messing around with the punishments for disobeying the laws. Laws will be enforced to the highest extent.
Branches of Government: The Zarydiach, being the complete rulers of I.F.U., control all the branches. They together create the laws, enforce the laws, and decide whether they are constitutionally correct and should be allowed. Some may believe this would be impossible, saying there is no way four people could agree on everything. However the Zarydiach unnaturally agree on everything and it is quite simple for them to run the country together. So far they have not disagreed on any law; if there were to be a disagreement between them, they would discuss the law until they came to a settlement or it might result in a vote from the Zarydiach amongst them. A disagreement is not predicted to come in the future because their decisions are always based on the Zimmeemee. Everything must protect, respect, and worship the Zimmeemee or it is simply not aloud.
How the election process occurs: There is no election process in the I.F.U. The Zarydiach rule all equally and that will never change, no citizen will ever have the right to vote.
How many? jobs/funtions of each: The Zarydiach holds all the jobs of the government. They create, enforce and define the laws on I.F.U equally. There are no specific jobs given to each person, it is distributed among them and are always open for discussion and a change by any member of the Zarydiach.
How Chosen- The Zarydiach serves to function as any and all parts of the government. No specific jobs are established other than the sole Right to Rule All and Only the Zarydiach chooses which jobs to do as well as which of them will do it.
Cabinet- Since the founding of our nation and their abduction, the population has reveled in a supreme lack of imagination. Their total lack of creativity inhibits their “In-The-Box-Thinking” and the few attempts at adding members to the Zarydiach’s council have not gone well. The members exhibited their inability to advise and suggest new proposals and ideas while keeping the Zarydiach ideology intact. Ridiculous privileges and rights such as freedom press, petition speech and religion of all things were suggested in order to “keep the masses happy”. As you can well understand the Zarydiach had no choice but to deem them wrought with horrible dementia thus having to castrate and confine them to the mental asylum (as to ensure this clearly genetic disease would not corrupt the future Zimmoans). Since this tragic example of bad DNA, the people have been hesitant to seize the opportunity to change and better their country despite the Zarydiach’s sincere disappointment.
Legislative and Dominant Political Party- The Zarydiach currently preside as the only real political party aside from a few dementia stricken groups (obliviously awaiting castration). The legislature has no separate houses but rather one chamber made up by all the Zarydiach who meet to propose, debate and enforce bills.
Political Parties: Due to the totalitarian nature of the International Federation of Unicorns - its oligarchic governmental and command-style economic structures – there is a lack in political activism by its citizens; the Zarydiach serves as its own political party, and faces only slight political opposition (although open resistance is futile and punishable on pain of death.) It has been suspected that an underground political movement, known as the Coffee Party, has formed over the matter of the past six months; the Coffee Party purportedly harbors anti-government fanatics that want to be paid for work, not have to worship Zimmeemmee, and be able to Skype with estranged family members for ten minutes every month. Obviously, these ideals are preposterous and will not be permitted under the iron fisted rule of the Zarydiach. This past month Coffee Partyers picketed one of the sacred Temples of Zimmeemee, sporting outrageous attire (Polo’s, needless to say), and holding up signs saying things like ‘IMPEACH THE ZARYDIACH!’, ‘UNICORNS ARE DUMB’, ‘WE ARE SICK AND TIRED OF THE ZIBELINE FUR SUITS’, and ‘OCCULTISTS LIED, KIDS DIED!’. The overzealous protestors were promptly shot in the face by rifles. Even more mysterious, the protestors’ families vanished into thin air within the week. Despite these demoralizing set-backs, these spunky little Coffee Partyers still seem determined to make a dent in the seemingly lethal game of Federation politics.
Court Structure: The Federation’s island is relatively small in size, and is home to only a couple hundred disease-ridden, pre-pubescent teenagers, therefore only one court presides in the land – The Supreme Theological Court of Occultism. Seeing as there are only minors and android robots to inhabit the island, the beautiful and talented Zarydiach serve as both the justices and prosecutors in this notoriously unforgiving (not to mention temperamental) court. Having a single court to uphold the values of I.F.U., much paperwork (no documentation in history of court), manpower (Zarydiach take turns playing prosecutor), and confusion (no other sources have a say and appeals are outlawed) is saved. No state, provincial, or municipal courts are necessary to meet the legal needs of the citizenry. Offenders are brought in front of the panel and tried for the alleged crime; the defendants are provided with no legal assistance but are allowed a thirty second testimony to convince the panel of their innocence. The Zarydiach make their ruling by reviewing the government contract formed to create the nation, the Zulu. The Zulu outlines the core values of the Federation and sets guidelines for executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the government.
